1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Hardtop After six generations, nearly 40 years of production, dozens of special editions, Chevrolet ended the Monte Carlo line in 2007. It began in 1970 when GM decided to stretch the A-body platform in front of the firewall creating a long nose, which Pontiac had proven with its Grand Prix which outsold the larger B-body cars. This long hood layout would eventually become its own platform known affectionately and internally as G-bodies. For consignment, a 1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo hardtop showing 389 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This fully restored Monte has a 502ci V8, but it's the exterior, clean presentation that stopped us in our tracks. Based on our experience, Monte's have an enthusiastic following and good ones don't last long at the mall. This is a likely candidate for the same. Exterior Two stage Midnight Blue Metallic was the choice during the frame off restoration and is fathoms deep on this car, allowing the 18-inch Coys chrome wheels to explode with vibrancy and it's a match made in heaven. In the center of the grated black grille is the Corinthian helmet, (similar to the Spartan helmet), and flanked by single round headlights with round cornered bezels. The black vinyl top is in great condition and retains a border of blue around the front and sides, set back from the drip rails. The chrome bumpers, door handles, side mirror, and other metal trim are in excellent shape while simple vertical tail lights are canted forward and distinctive. The front parking lights are integrated into the chrome bumpers, the reverse lights in the rear, and two chrome exhaust tips are expelled underneath. Imperfections include a gap issue at the hood, swirl surface scratches, several small inclusions.  Interior Black vinyl patterned door panels on both doors present in excellent condition with a black armrest and door pull and electric window switches and both doors present cleanly. The monochromatic black palette continues on the fantastic bucket seats and rear bench, both with stitch patterning and button back design, with some seam tears noted on the passenger side. The standard steering wheel leads to a flow of burlwood applique which rides over the dashboard where Dakota Digital gauges are neatly arranged and a Pioneer screen with AM/FM and Bluetooth continues to bring this car into the 21st century. The always enjoyable horseshoe shifter lives in the center console with large indicator numbers on the face framed in more simulated wood while black loop carpet covers the floor over added sound deadening material and is protected by embroidered carpeted mats. Our black vinyl headliner looks great and the fully finished truck is smooth and clean. Drivetrain Polished pulleys and orange valve covers highlight the show and go ready 502ci V8 under the hood with Merlin II heads, an Edelbrock intake, and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor. Behind it, a 200R4 4-speed automatic sending power to the 12 bolt rear with consignor stated 4.11gears and Positraction. Header, power brakes, power steering, and air conditioning are all on board. Undercarriage Bring some long floor mirrors to the show because the underside is a feast too! Here we have stainless Pypes exhaust flowing through an X-pipe, mufflers, and polished tips. An LPW differential cover dresses things up between the exhaust while power disc brakes are at all four wheels including Baers up front. Suspension consists of coil springs front and rear with a 4 link in back and glossy black serves as the backdrop for all.  Drive-Ability Every once in a while, we start a car in the receiving area and Car Specialists from around the mall swarm to the room to see what's up. That's the case here with a fantastic sounding Monte that shines bright too. On the test loop, it has obvious power underfoot, straight tracking, nice handling and braking that's on point.
